IN CHARACTER
Character Name: Raylan Givens
Canon: Justified
Canon Point: After S5E13, before the start of Season 6.
In-Game Tattoo Placement: A small, simple design on the back of his neck.
Current Health/Status: Pretty much fine! Tired and a bit strung out, but otherwise okay.
Age: 43
Species: Human
Content Warnings: Oh boy. Prominently: murder, violence, police shootings, abuse (both parental and spousal).
History: The show and Raylan
Personality: Raylan's not inherently unlikeable, although he's a hard man to love, but even saying that depends on who you're talking to. He's very charming and his folksy holler ways are endearing or enjoyable for some people, but other people find him aggravating, cocky and kind of unpleasant to be around. He's very blunt and not afraid to "tell it like (he thinks) it is" which makes him kind of abrasive and not the friendliest fella, but with strangers he usually tends to pile on the charm and the stupid jokes if he wants or has to cooperate with them in some way.
He has a really strong moral core, though it's entirely unshakeable and basically serves as an 'I can do what I want' permit as far as he's concerned. He's brash, opinionated, and kind of bullheaded, though he does have some finesse. He's not usually the type to shoot first and asked questions later, but also he has definitely said, "If you pull, I'll put you down," more than once, which says a lot. He will do what he's told, but only if he respects the person who's telling him, and respect from Raylan is pretty hard-earned. He's also prone to ignoring his role as a marshal or purposefully acting outside of the marshal purview to settle personal grievances. He's not completely lawless, he has respect for rules, but his own personal brand of justice is a better draw to him than staying out of trouble. For example: Raylan practically engineered the execution of a guy who had threatened and almost killed Raylan's ex-wife and then-unborn daughter, was there when it happened, and walked away as the guy's limo was being shot up.
He's also a very prideful person, to the extent where it can kind of get in the way. On one occasion, he threatened a guy by saying, "The next conversation we have isn't gonna be a conversation," but a little while later he was forced to accompany a colleague to speak to that same guy and the discomfort at having threatened something that he hadn't followed through on was pretty excruciating, to say the least.
While he's fairly well aware that he's not invincible, he's still very cocky to the extent that he's often blind to his own inadequacies and failings. Also, while highly moral, he follows his own personal code and it's hard to shift him from that and tell him that what he's done, while he might think it was the right thing, was actually terrible Raylan no don't do that why would you do that. He has a very Old West attitude, which is a huge character flaw because it's the root of a lot of his issues as a person – his take-no-shit attitude, his inability to conceive of himself as being wrong, his very itchy trigger finger, his slightly outdated Opinions On Being A Man™ – and because it can just be really obnoxious.
He also has absolutely no impulse control at all, especially when it comes to sex. Despite being explicitly warned not to by his boss, he had sex with Ava Crowder which resulted in her brother-in-law Boyd being released from prison, because Raylan's relationship with Ava compromised both of their positions as witnesses to Boyd's crimes. He will do something if he wants to do it, no matter how many people tell him not to. I cannot stress this enough.
Other than that, he's quite witty when he wants to be. He's capable of being incredibly, deeply, bafflingly stupid, and at turns petty and spiteful to a frankly alarming degree for someone who's over forty. He is loyal to the people he trusts and respects, but it's easy to lose both his trust and his respect in an instant, and very hard to get it back after that. He has little love for abusive people and lawbreakers who show little or no remorse. He's very angry, although he doesn't show it and often doesn't even believe that he is – angry over where he came from, the things and people he's lost, the injustices he's suffered and seen other people suffer, his father, Boyd, his ex-wife, and so on and so on. He can be cold, callous, and bordering on cruel sometimes, but ultimately he's not a bad person, although he might constantly be teetering on the edge of becoming one.
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping: No supernatural powers or anything, just smarts and a couple slightly above average skills with a weapon. He's a very good shot and fast on a quickdraw, like a real cowboy, and he was trained at Glynco as a United States Marshal, a job he's had for about 20 years. He's good at it, if a little unorthodox. He's like 6' even and pretty well built (but extremely svelte) and he can hold his own in a fistfight, but he does tend to get tossed around a lot by virtue of picking fights with far more capable people than him. Also: the power of not looking like a total jackass while wearing a stetson.
Inventory:
- His clothes: blue jeans, a black henley, a denim jacket, cowboy boots, an off-white stetson, a cheapish watch, and a horseshoe ring that he wears on his right hand.
- A handgun (a .45 caliber Glock in a leather holster), loaded.
- An extra clip of bullets.
- His US Marshal badge and ID.
- An official Marshals Service silver dollar.

Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: Sure, obviously as long as they're plot relevant and not just for the sake of it.
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: I'm a huge fan of gore just generally speaking, but I also like the extremes that thrillers push characters to, the ability to get a much deeper understanding of a person when they're in a situation so far removed from their normal existence. I especially like the idea of seeing how characters not from a horror/thriller setting adapt to something different, so this is all right up my alley.
Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: I doubt this would come up, but any footage of car accidents (gifs, videos, etc.), specifically collisions. Written word is fine. Otherwise, I'm cool!
